We all make mistakes at one time or another, it’s part of human nature. We live and we learn and avoid them in the future. There are also opportunities to learn from other people’s mistakes, get outside knowledge that will keep us on the right track without having to make those mistakes ourselves.
When it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), there are a lot of small mistakes that people do that can cause larger problems to arise. With poorly implemented SEO, you’re not only losing out on valuable online traffic, but losing out on potential sales and business opportunities.
This post is about informing you about what common SEO mistakes are made when it comes to digital marketing. Moving forward and adjusting your marketing strategy you might be able to avoid these faux pas and start moving up in search rankings.
SEO – Not Catering to Mobile Users
Perhaps a few years back, mobile internet users were the minority in the bunch and there were chances to overlook that demographic – it’s no longer the case.
People have begun accessing internet more from their mobile device than the conventional desktop computer or a laptop.
If you haven’t already, you need to start catering to the mobile users more than ever before. As a matter of fact, Google recently changed their algorithm that ranks websites higher that have been optimized for mobile users.
As you can see, not creating a mobile friendly user experience, you can be missing out on a lot of valuable web traffic.
SEO – Oversaturation of Keywords
You probably know the keywords you are ranking for by now. Once you have done your research and have figured out the right keywords for your content, it’s time to start implementing them within your text.
Now you may think that stuffing your content with keywords will help increase search ranking but that’s incorrect. Don’t assume that more keywords in text equals better SEO results. Using too many keywords can actually hurt your search ranking, so think again before going down this route.
Write your content that’s tailored to the reader, and use keywords that will naturally fit within your text. In other words, write with the human reader in mind, not search engine bots.
SEO – Missing Links
Including links within your text is a great way to boost your SEO efforts. Some web pages and blogs like to skip out on this part. Quality links within your content is essential.
Always include internal and external links in your content. The internal links helps you guide your audience to other relevant content that you have created. External links show users other sources of information that’s available out there that relates back to your original post.
External links also signal credibility and trustworthiness to Google search bots, enhancing your SEO results.
SEO – Blocks of Text
Having spaces between short paragraphs is a necessity not only for SEO but to create a more suitable reader experience. Avoid having large paragraphs with no spaces in between.
When you provide a huge wall of text to the reader, it compromises your audience as well as damages your ability to rank higher in the search engines.
Write short 4-5 line long paragraphs and create spaces between the paragraphs. It breaks the text apart making it easier to read and helps improve your SEO.
SEO – Not Analysing Data
The great thing about SEO and digital marketing, in general, is the ability to gather data online. This data helps you adjust your marketing efforts to make your marketing strategy that much more effective.
One of the greatest mistakes when it comes to SEO is not analyzing the user data that you have available to you. Use the data to your advantage and continue to improve your digital marketing.
