Affiliate Marketing – Email Advertising on Affiliate Sites!

Looking for other affiliate marketing tutorials and resources? Try our archives

With the proliferation of goods and services now available on the Internet, advertisers look to individuals and companies to help sell their products by utilizing webmasters and others to spread the word.

This can be in the form of banner advertising on affiliate sites, text links, reviews written by affiliates, direct email etc. The advertisers compensate webmasters by paying them for displaying the ads, or for click throughs sent to them, or (as is most common these days) a commission on sales resulting as a referral from their web site or for more details visit to www.affiliate-manager-pro.com email message. How can I make money from being an affiliate?

There are many thousands of affiliate programs out there, all claiming to be the best. Some of them will give you the impression that all you have to do is implement their banners and links and wait for the commission checks to start rolling in. This CAN be the case, for more details visit to www.affiliate-manager-pro.com but this scenario usually only applies to very large sites with massive web traffic that is relevant to product or service on offer. For most of us, being a successful affiliate requires a little more work!

As the range of goods and online services offered via the Internet has grown at an incredible rate over the last few years, therefore so has the competition. Web site visitors need to have a very good reason for clicking on a link or banner.
Choosing the right banners

In most affiliate programs, you are offered a wide variety of banners to place on your site – very few of them will be effective. If you can attain a click through rate of 2%, then you are doing very well. It has been our experience, and this is generally speaking, that graphically rich banners do not perform as successfully as their simpler counterparts. The main reason for this is download time. If a banner is the last thing to load on your page and the banner ad is excessively byte “heavy”, by the time it has loaded your visitor may already have scrolled down the page – missing it entirely. Heavy banner ads can also slow down the loading of your pages, or critical elements of your page and you can lose your visitors altogether! A graphically rich banner can also confuse the actual message – the artwork and marketing blurb can be imbalanced. For these reasons, we suggest that banners you implement be no more that 15kb wherever possible.

Banners that have “extreme” animation, such as rapid flashing, are also something to consider very carefully. While these do achieve high clickthrough rates, they are also highly annoying. If you do decide to implement this form of banner advertising, use it very sparingly.

When selecting any form of graphical advertising, try and keep the theme of your site in mind – while graphical ads are meant to stand out and catch a visitors eye, it shouldn’t be to the point that everything else on the page is totally ignored. Wherever possible, ensure that all banner ads (and any advertising for that matter) uses a link that opens in a new window. That way, if a visitor does choose to visit one of your advertisers it is easy for them to return to your page and review what they actually came to your site for!
Pop ups and pop unders

Many companies, but mostly agencies representing a number of advertisers, now give their affiliates the options of using pop up and pop under ads. Our opinion – pop ups are evil. They annoy visitors and are usually closed before they even have a chance to load. Go for pop-unders and preferably those that only display once per visit. See below for further articles on this subject.
Using Text Link Ads.

One of the most successful forms of advertising are text link ads. They are bandwidth friendly, don’t take up a lot of space and can be easily implemented into most page layouts. Good text links ads don’t just scream “buy me!”, they also offer some information as to why your web site visitor should investigate the offer. A company should also supply you with very short text links which only state the product or company name. The reason for this is so that you can implement the links directly into the content of related articles and reviews.
Articles and product/service reviews

Now, this is where a bit of hard work comes in. Your regular site visitors will view you as an authority on particular subjects, so why not write a review on a product or service you are advertising? This also supplies excellent content for search engine spiders to latch onto. We have attracted many visitors to our site using what I call “adarticles”.
But there’s a catch……

If you are going to use the adarticle concept to promote products, you need to believe in what you write. Research the product and company well. Contact the company and let them know what you are doing and ask for further resources and assistance. Once you have created the review, send them the link – you may be surprised at the response you get.

One of our advertisers was so impressed with the effort we put into promoting his company’s product that he gave us an extra 15% commission on each sale! This form of web site advertising is a bit time-consuming, so choose your products carefully. The information that you supply to your web site visitors will help them formulate a decision, so be honest in your sales copy. If you are successful in this promotion strategy, over time your reviews won’t be seen as hype and bluster, but as a reliable source of information – everybody wins!
Email advertising as an affiliate marketing tool

Direct promotion via email has boomed over recent years, but has brought with it mountains of spam. If you intend on using email as a method of advertising products and services, ensure you stand behind the products you’re promoting and make yourself available to answer any questions.

An effective promotion technique we have found is to combine email with the adarticle strategy. In our ezine we occasionally put a summary of a product or service, just enough information to stir the curiosity of our readers. The summary then contains a link to the adarticle on our site. The benefit of this is not only that you have a good opportunity to promote the product or service, but while visitors are on your site they may also look at other sections. The advertiser benefits through having highly targeted potential clients visit their site.

Earn Easy Money Through Paid Survey Sites

You probably have received an email or two offering you income opportunities through one of the many paid survey sites all over the Internet. Many people usually just ignore these kinds of emails, thinking that they are all full of false promises and scam. What these people do not know is that filling out online surveys are actually an excellent opportunity to earn easy money online.

There are several ways through which you can earn money online giving your opinions. You can earn anywhere from a dollar to about five for filling out an easy 5 or 10-minute paid survey. If you have the right strategy, you can increase your earning potential. Here are some tips to help you multiply your income with these surveys:

1. Sign up with as many free survey sites as possible. One of the excellent ways to maximize your earning capacity is to sign up with as many programs available as you can. Note that one program may only offer you a few surveys a week. If you have many companies sending you paid survey jobs, you can have better chances to earn more.

2. Don’t be choosy, at least at first. If you are starting out with paid survey programs, it is important for you to never miss any survey sent to you. You have to build your credibility as a respondent. If you become choosy and pass on a few too many surveys, there is a good chance for you to be taken off their list. If you want to earn more, patiently follow through during the first few months even if the programs do not give out substantial pay. If you already have a stable stream offered, then it is time to start choosing those that will be worth your time.

3. Be as general as you can. You should remember that surveys have certain target respondents. In order to qualify for more, try to be as general as possible. These programs usually ask you to fill out questionnaires for them to know your basic information. Of course, you should be honest when filling out these forms. You also need to make sure that you check all the boxes that apply to you.

4. Make use of form fill software. You can save a lot of time and effort by using one of the many form filling software available online. This software allows automated input of redundant data which includes names, phone numbers, addresses, and so on.

Paid survey sites and programs are one of the easiest ways for you to earn extra income through the Internet. However, you need to set realistic expectations when it comes to earnings. Remember that filling in surveys is actually a job. You only get paid an amount proportional to the time and effort you spend. If you patiently follow through and take each and every paid survey seriously, there is no reason for you not to earn a stable income through surveys quickly.

Download Sites And Affiliate Programs

I have been running shareware download sites in one form or another for over 3 years and during that time I have become intimately familiar with many of the various shareware affiliate programs out there. Also in those 3 years I have also been able to formulate an opinion related to most of these programs and some, by no means all, of the vendors that choose to “participate” in these programs.

Out of the big 3 or 4 programs out there, RegNow, Share-It!, Plimus, and to a lesser extent eSellerate and RegSoft, only one really has a program in place to help affiliates make the most out of the program. That affiliate program is RegNow with their certification program. This program was put in place to help affiliates identify vendors that properly participate in the program by making it possible for affiliates to choose the vendors that use RegNow in a way that allows affiliates to earn commissions for their referrals.

Considering the fact that I have also used other affiliate programs like Commission Junction, Share-A-Sale and Clickbank, the question needs to be asked as to why any kind of certification program would even be necessary. With these programs and most other larger programs, a prospective vendor must provide a way for any of their affiliates to earn commissions for any referrals, if they don’t the affiliate program in question does not allow the vendor to join or stay in the program. In the case of shareware affiliate programs, this isn’t the case.

Even with RegNow’s certification program and in the case with just about all shareware affiliate programs, vendors are not required to, and a large number of them do not, participate in a way that ensures affiliates get credit for referring a sale.

Shareware affiliate programs do work differently than normal programs as they rely on prospective buyers first trying the product first before requiring them to purchase it. What this means is normally an affiliate will refer someone to download the trial version than rely on that visitor later buying the product. In almost all cases this requires that a cookie set when the user downloads the trial to be recalled later when the user returns to the vendor’s site to purchase the program. This is where the fatal flaw is in regards to shareware affiliate programs.

Why is this a problem? Cookies are the basis of most affiliate programs and other than the inherent flaw with cookies in general in regards to some people not allowing cookies to be set or those that regularly delete them, many vendors that participate in shareware affiliate programs choose not to use that program as their payment provider while others use that program along with other providers allowing the visitor to choose among several payment options. What this does is ensure that even with a cookie set, the referring affiliate has little if any chance of earning a commission for their efforts.

Now the question needs to be asked is why do affiliate programs allow this and why do many vendors choose to operate this way? In regards to the affiliate programs, vendors are their bread and butter, the more vendors they have the more opportunity they get to receive fees for their services. Whether or not an affiliate gets a commission or not does not figure into their bottom line as their money comes out of the vendors pocket, so as long as the vendor is happy, they are happy.

That leaves the participating vendors, why do they choose this route? As far as I can tell, there is pretty much only 2 reasons for them not providing an affiliate friendly program. The first would be ignorance, in theory I suppose a vendor could honestly not realize that they are making it impossible for their affiliates to earn a commission. They may not realize that the majority of affiliate commissions come from trial downloads that are later purchased versus a customer purchasing directly from buy links on an affiliate’s site.

The 2nd and far more sinister reason in my mind is that the vendors realize this but think they can get a larger number of sales by duping unsuspecting affiliates. Affiliates that do not know better spend their time and money doing the marketing for a vendor’s product and get nothing in return. They refer customers to the vendor’s site who then use other payment options outside of the affiliate program thus ensuring the vendor doesn’t have to pay the commission to the affiliate.

This tactic has been discussed at great length in the Regnow forum as well as other places and it still amazes me to hear some of the excuses brought forward by some of these vendors. One excuse relates to how these vendors feel that RegNow charges too much to process their payments so they must use other cheaper payment options and still others complain that they feel they shouldn’t have to pay affiliates because they don’t feel they earned a commission. They bring up the fact that many affiliates don’t do much to promote their product and hence shouldn’t be paid for this perceived lack of effort.

Now even looking at this from an affiliates point of view, I understand that many of us do not promote as heavily as we should, or as some vendors would like, but those that don’t will not last long anyway and as far as a vendor is concerned, why would you care? Even if an affiliate brings you nothing as far as sales, you are not losing anything as you only pay for sales, plus if an affiliate happens to bring you a sale, it is 1 more than you would have had.

New affiliates need to be aware of the pitfalls of shareware affiliate programs and if they choose not to spend the time and effort weeding out these vendors, they have no one to blame but themselves. In a perfect world, the affiliate programs would do this for you but that isn’t going to happen. And my question for vendors that join these programs and then choose not to properly participate, what is your excuse?

Uk Online Auction Sites

April 5, 2010 by SmallBiz-Resources.com · Leave a Comment

If you mention online auctions to most people the first name that comes to mind is eBay. This is not really surprising when you consider that eBay is the largest online auction site with over 233 million active users worldwide. In the UK eBay.co.uk is well established as the leading online auction site.

Ebay.co.uk was launched in October 1999 with offices above a shop in London. Currently eBay has 14 million registered users and can have as many as 10 million items listed for sale at any one time. EBay has given many individuals and small businesses the opportunity to establish themselves as online retailers. Currently eBay estimate that there are around 178,000 people who use eBay as their primary or second source of income.

However, eBay.co.uk is not the only UK based online auction, the second largest auction site is CQout (pronounced seek you out). This site usually has around 700,000 listing running at any one time. Unlike most other auction sites CQout does charge a small registration fee when you register but does not charge a listing fee. There is a charge of 1.5% on the final sale value which is considerably cheaper than most of the other online auction sites. CQout is a totally British run operation which was launched in December 1999.

eBid auctions was launched over 10 years ago in the UK. Now it has also expanded its operation into the USA. You can list items for free and use the list until sold feature. A final valuation fee of 3% I normally charged but it is possible to upgrade your account to seller+ for a price and then you do not pay any final fees. There are charges for additional items such as gallery or featured. There is no doubt that eBid is a cheaper option than eBay however, it lacks the quantity of bidders of the larger site. Quite a few eBay sellers have moved over to eBid in the last 12 months which must say something.

Some of the small UK online auction sites that are worth taking a look at are One Way United Kingdom, Auction1.co.uk and 121bid.com. There are some sellers who prefer to use these well less known sites but they all suffer from the problem of not being able to attract enough buyers or sellers to make them viable alternatives to the larger online sites.

There are a selection of other smaller and specialist online uk based auction sites but they seem to come and go very quickly. Two of the bigger UK online auction sites that have gone out of business are QXL and Tazbar. The fact that eBay are themselves moving more to fixed priced items and away from the auction format might suggest that the online auctions sites are beginning to lose favour with the public.
